HI!
I am very excited to meet all of you, so I am guessing you might be a little curious about me. This is my fifth year in Denver Public Schools, I have been both a 3rd grade teacher (the last two years), and also a 4th grade teacher (my first year in DPS). Prior to teaching in DPS I taught outdoor education with OutwardBound in Minnesota, with Heifer International in Arkansas, and Science Camp in Alaska (I love to both travel and learn). I returned to Colorado to pursue my teaching certificate and my Masters Degree in Urban Education at the University of Denver. I am happy to call Colorado home, and proud to be a teacher for Denver Public Schools.
I grew up in Denver, and thus I have been spoiled by having such sunny weather and wonderful mountains so close. Since settling back in Denver I have started to cook in kitchens opposted to campfires, help teach wilderness courses with The Colorado Mountain Club, and this year I am looking forward to volunteering with fuzzy animals at the Max Fund.
Last summer I spent time living in a tent while volunteering at Shambhala Mounain Center (another atempt to learn to cook), reading many books, traveling around Seattle, and I also hiked around getting funny tan lines. I have been meeting with the literacy team all summer and we continue to share great ideas and laugh together.
These pictures are from my summer, I spent a few weeks hiking and backpacking in hawaii. I love food, hiking, plants, animals, and reading (and snorkling!). This is going to be a fabulous year and I cannot wait to meet you all!
With much merriment,
Ms. Gretchen Bartling
